Don't be panicked, don't be intimidated, don't be pressurised into accepting some life threatening martial law solution.

Bird Flu Outbreak Coincided With Drill - Foot and Mouth example should set alarm bells ringing if pandemic occurs (infowarsnews) [April 7th, 2006]
Britain's bird flu scare that officials are now warning could spread to other areas of Scotland coincided with an exercise that drilled a response to an avian flu outbreak. The drill included the involvement of Downing Street and the Ministry of Defence.
The BBC reports that the exercise was cancelled as soon as the discovery of the H5 virus in the dead swan in Fife was made.
"The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in London was running it with control centres in Bury St Edmunds, Leeds, Cardiff and Gloucester," states the article. "It also involved the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Environment Agency, Downing Street, the Ministry of Defence, and other government departments."

Cairo - A third person has died from bird flu in Egypt, Nigeria has reported the southward spread of the disease and Britain has confirmed its first case of the deadly H5N1 strain.
In Britain's first confirmed bird flu case, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) has confirmed that a wild swan found dead in Scotland had the H5N1 strain.
Scotland's chief veterinary officer Charles Milne said he did not know whether the swan was from a local or migratory flock. - Officials have set a 3km protection zone around where the swan was found.

Sir David King also defended the eight-day delay in pinpointing the potentially lethal strain in the decomposed remains of a swan found in Cellardyke, Scotland, saying it was remarkable that a result was obtained at all.
The bird is understood to be a mute swan, a native species that does not normally migrate long distances, suggesting that it contracted the virus from another bird arriving from the Continent.
Massive Bird Flu epidemic exercise planned (scotsman UK) [April 7th, 2006]
HEALTH chiefs are to stage a major exercise to test how Scotland would cope with a mass outbreak of bird flu in humans. - Officials from NHS Lothian will join police and council officials in the simulation to be staged next month as part of plans to combat a possible flu pandemic. The exercise is being organised by Health Protection Scotland, a Scottish Executive body responsible for co-ordinating health protection across the country.
Experts stress the likelihood of humans becoming infected with bird flu remains low at the moment, but in the longer term there are fears that the disease could mutate, leading to a pandemic where a new strain of flu is passed from human to human.

The expert, Professor Hugh Pennington, the president of the Society for General Microbiology and professor emeritus of bacteriology at Aberdeen University accuses the British Government of being "very relaxed".
He is also critical of the Government's "optimistic" attitude to a potentially devastating pandemic, comparing it to the complacency over BSE a decade ago.

TORONTO (CP) - The military's intelligence arm has warned the federal government that avian influenza could be used as a weapon of bioterrorism, a heavily censored report suggests.

Russia says migrating birds may export the virus to Europe and the Middle East
The H5N1 strain of bird flu is behind the outbreak in Chelyabinsk, a city in the Ural mountains, the Emergencies Ministry said in a statement, adding that 497 birds had died over the past 24 hours. The strain is the same one that has killed dozens of people in Asia and many millions of poultry.

A VIETNAMESE doctor who has treated dozens of victims of avian flu claims the drug being stockpiled around the world to combat a pandemic is "useless" against the virus.
"We place no importance on using this drug on our patients," she said. "Tamiflu is really only meant for treating ordinary type A flu. It was not designed to combat H5N1 . . . (Tamiflu) is useless."
